Launch Announcement: The “16 for 16” campaign – A Holiday Season Campaign Raising Awareness & Funds for the Cause to End Violence Against Women

25 November 2011: The Pixel Project, the global volunteer-led online non-profit working to end Violence Against Women (VAW), is proud to present the first 16 For 16 campaign. This annual holiday season campaign does double duty for the VAW cause. It is The Pixel Project’s contribution to the international 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence campaign while functioning as a year-end micro-donation giving programme to help the global community give to the cause without breaking the bank. The 16 For 16 campaign begins on 25 November and ends on New Year’s Day.

The Pixel Project’s contribution to the 16 Days of Activism is a unique blogging campaign to raise awareness and encourage action to prevent and stop VAW. Regina Yau, Founder and President of The Pixel Project said: “In 2010, we published nine articles to commemorate this significant period, including seven that took the form of action lists related to stopping VAW. We noticed that the lists were both useful and immensely popular. So we formalised the blogging exercise as the 16 For 16 campaign whereby we will publish one blog article for every day of the 16 Days of Activism.”

Each article is a short list of 16 positive ideas and/or solutions revolving around a specific theme related to VAW. Each idea and/or solution is bite-sized – simple to understand and easy to put into action. Ms Yau said: “These articles are the foundation of a flourishing and formidable online resource of ideas and solutions for preventing, stopping and ending VAW as the 16 for 16 campaign archives grow in the years to come. We hope that these articles will inspire, motivate and galvanise individuals, groups and communities to take that first step towards helping stop VAW.”

The launch of the 16 For 16 campaign also marks the launch of pilot run of The Pixel Project’s Purple Pamper Package fundraiser in partnership with Spa Fundraiser. Through this unique online fundraiser, donors buy spa certificates that get them a mini face-and-hand spa pampering session worth $150 for just $25 per certificate! Each certificate is valid for individuals who wish to take time to decompress and relax as well as groups of up to eight women to catch up over the holidays with a touch of luxury.

Donors will also have the option of doubling the charitable impact of the certificates by buying these certificates for the survivors and staff in thirty (30) women’s shelters across the United States who have signed up to receive donor-sponsored Purple Pamper Package certificates.

$12.50 (50%) from each Purple Pamper Package spa certificate goes towards revealing pixels in The Pixel Project’s Celebrity Male Role Models Pixel Reveal which aims to raise US$1 million for the USA’s National Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Malaysia’s Women’s Aid Organisation by getting a global audience to donate US$1 per pixel to reveal a million-pixel mystery portrait collage of four celebrity male role models taken by award-winning international photographer, Jillian Edelstein.

Catherine Pierce, founder of Spa Fundraiser said: “This is a great opportunity for Spa Fundraiser to extend our mission statement of women empowering women.  We’re excited that we’re able to take this a step further and assist and pamper women who’ve been the victims of domestic violence.“
